Payment operations

EARLY ACCESS

The asset, the network and the invoice.

A dollar label is not enough to identify a token payment. A network name is not proof that the invoice was paid. Reliable settlement connects four things: the exact asset, the correct destination, the required confirmation state and the commercial order. A weakness in any one of them can turn an apparent receipt into a support problem.

Match the token, not its ticker.

Token symbols are easy to imitate. A checkout should match the intended contract or mint and its decimal precision against an approved configuration. Different representations can share a familiar name while introducing another issuer, custodian or bridge. A supported blockchain does not mean every token on it is acceptable.

The original BitSettle technical material lists Bitcoin, Lightning and USDT configurations across TRON, Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum One, BNB Smart Chain, Avalanche C-Chain and Solana. Treat this as a set of configurations to review. Confirm the current issuer documentation and exact asset for each deployment; do not turn that list into a claim that every network is enabled today.

Self-custody does not remove issuer control.

Holding USDT in your own wallet removes one custody relationship. It does not turn USDT into Bitcoin or remove the issuer’s powers. Tether’s terms describe circumstances in which tokens or access may be frozen or restricted. Review those terms alongside the business’s counterparty and legal obligations.

Keep the operational distinction clear. Wallet control answers who can sign a transaction. Issuer control concerns the token itself. Network operation determines how transfers are ordered and confirmed. A bridge or wrapped asset adds another relationship. None of these questions is answered by a headline promising no frozen accounts.

An exception needs a decision, not a green tick.

Short or late payment

An exchange may deduct a fee, or a customer may send after the quote expires. Keep the invoice and payment evidence together. Decide whether to collect a balance, accept a revised amount or return funds under the agreed policy. Do not release the order merely because some money arrived.

Overpayment or wrong network

A surplus requires reconciliation. A transfer to an unexpected network may be difficult or impossible to recover, depending on the destination and custody model. Do not promise recovery before checking the actual transaction. Never ask the customer to disclose private keys to support staff.

Refund request

Verify the original order and the request through an established contact channel. Confirm the refund destination rather than blindly copying the sender address: an exchange deposit can require different instructions. Record the approval, outgoing transaction and accounting treatment. A receive-only service does not sign refunds for the merchant.

Use settlement evidence in the order workflow.

A customer screenshot or explorer link can help locate a payment. Your own system should still verify the destination, asset, amount and invoice relationship. Authenticated webhooks are notifications to check, and repeat events must not fulfil an order twice. The relevant provider’s authoritative status controls whether the payment is ready for release.

Keep the exception policy visible to staff before launch. The strongest payment operation is one that can explain why an order is paid, why another is held, and who has authority to resolve the difference.

Before you decide

Common questions.

Is a confirmed payment immune to every dispute?

No. Technical settlement does not eliminate contractual claims, applicable consumer rights, fraud investigations or issuer powers affecting tokens.

Should I choose the fastest network?

Choose the combination your customers can use correctly and your business can operate reliably. Cost, finality, custody, liquidity and recovery all belong in the decision.
